Jets Shouldn't Trade Breece Hall
The New York Jets shouldn’t trade Breece Hall. In fact, they should use their franchise tag on him this offseason, then build an extension off of it.
Breece Hall is a weapon, and should be on the Jets for the next quarterback they likely draft to help this team continue to grow.
There is no one else on the team worth the franchise tag, and the running back number is relatively low. So, the Jets can work around it.
If I were the Jets, I would tag Breece Hall first and use the tag number to build the contract moving forward.
The contract would end up being 4 years, $73,230,256 ($13,642,000 guaranteed at signing). The 2027-29 seasons will be guaranteed for injury at signing and fully guaranteed each March for that year.
In 2027, 2028, and 2029, he would get 120% of the prior year’s cash payment (equal to the franchise tag rules, if the 120% were to be higher than the actual tag number).
Here’s how it would break down.
The dead cap charges before each season’s trigger would be as follows:
2027: $9,320,250
2028: $6,213,500
2029: $3,106,750
This is a team-friendly deal, while also giving the player a chance to keep earning quality pay for the position.
